GUIDE TO THE PROPOSED POLICIES

This document sets out changes that the City Council proposes to make to the Adopted Unitary Development Plan (1998) and should therefore be read in conjunction with that document.

The proposed policies represent only a partial amendment to the UDP; the majority of policies in the Plan are unaffected and will remain the statutory land-use policies for the City until their replacement as part of the forthcoming Local Development Framework (LDF).

The structure of the Alteration follows that of the chapters in the UDP. The numbering system used accords with that in the UDP; i.e. the proposed policy on Comprehensive Development Sites (EC5A) follows on from the UDP policy on Mixed Use sites (EC5).

Similarly the area specific proposals are numbered to accord with the structure of the UDP; i.e. the proposed Comprehensive Development Site at the former Grove site (SA6A.1) follows on from the UDP Part 2 Policy on New Mixed Use Sites (SA6).

NOTE: At an early stage in the review of the UDP an alteration to policies for the City Centre Inset was proposed. An Issues Paper was prepared and circulated for public comment in September 2001. That document did not progress beyond the Issues stage and the review of the City Centre was taken up in the review of the wider Central Sunderland. The 2001 Issues Paper should be regarded as superseded by this document.
