1. Profile
Population - 4,266

2. The main planning issues are -
a. High demand for new housing, and its affordability.
b. Steep slopes and the A92 constrain development.
c. Demand for a new secondary school.
d. Potential for a rail halt at Wormit.
e. Requirement for larger GP surgery

Community consultation has raised local concerns about secondary school students commuting daily from the Tay bridgehead to Madras College in St Andrews, and there has been a groundswell of support for a new secondary school to serve the communities in the Tay bridgehead area. The Council is working to create a School Estate Strategy which, in turn, will inform a rolling programme for the future development of school buildings and lead to the identification of education priorities across all of Fife.

Wormit Masterplan Proposal Pr47
Fife Council will produce a planning brief and masterplan for the expansion of Wormit. This will cover the safeguarding of the rail station (t5), mixed uses at Wormit Farm and the potential for adjacent housing allocations (h67 - h70) to help facilitate them. Demand exists for a larger GP surgery to serve the Newport and Wormit area. The masterplan area is a potential location for this facility and, as such, land will be safeguarded for this use. This does not preclude the possibility, however, of alternative sites being considered for this facility. It will also address the design, layout and landscape impacts, and the requirements for any other community facilities or employment land.
