Here are a few tips on how to display and access information within the site using the Options and Tools provided.


Map Navigation

To activate a function, simply left click the mouse on the tool you require.

   

Reset Tool
Click on this tool at any time to return to the locator map of the Borough.

 

Zoom In Tool
This allows you to enlarge the scale of the map. Click on point of interest on map - or click, hold down and drag to select a specific area indicated by the appearance of a red box. Map will redraw at a larger scale.

 

Zoom Out Tool
This allows you to reduce the scale of the map. Click on point of interest on map - or click, hold down and drag to select a specific area indicated by the appearance of a red box. Map will redraw at a smaller scale.

 

Pan Tool
This allows you to move around the map. Click, hold down and drag cursor to move map image and bring the area of interest into the centre of the screen. The map will redraw and centre on your requested area.

 
 

Key
Use the scroll bar to view the Key to the Proposals Map. Click on key notation or description to go to the relevant chapter in the Written Statement. Where there are policies listed in more than one chapter, the link will take you to the chapter containing the first policy listed. A new window will appear containing the contents page of that chapter.

   

   
 

Scale Bar
This gives details of the scale of mapping being viewed.

   

   

Find an Area By Name

This allows you to select different mapping views. Click 'Go' and choose the view you require from the pop-up window. The map will redraw.

   

   

Choose a Map Type

Select Proposals Map or Inset Map from the drop-down list

   

   

View Documents

These links take you directly to the main documents relating to the UDP, instead of accessing them from the Proposals Map.

Written Statement - the full text of the UDP, including policies and proposals. All the changes that are proposed to the Plan are shown in a different font

   

   

Find an Area By Address

Click 'Go' and enter a postcode in the pop-up window. The map will redraw centered on your postcode. If a multiple postcode is found, click 'Search' and select from the drop-down list. Allow a few seconds for the search to complete.

   

   

Policy Information Tool
This allows you to access the policies relevant to particular areas, or a detailed plan showing a Proposed Change to the Proposals Map.

To view relevant policies in the Written Statement:

Click on point of interest on map. A list of the policies that apply to that area or site will appear below the Tool

Click on a policy title / number of interest. A new window appears showing the contents of the chapter containing the policy. (Where more than one policy number is listed, the link will take you to the chapter containing the first or most relevant policy).

Scroll down the chapter contents and click on the page number next to the relevant policy to go to the policy itself.

   

   

Technical information about this website

Opening the maps
Depending on your Internet connection speed, it may take a few moments for the initial download of the mapping database.

Software Requirements
This presentation only functions fully in Internet Explorer 5.0 or above. There is limited functionality if using in Netscape. Currently the presentation only functions on a PC.

Microsoft Java Virtual Machine needs to be activated to run the presentation. To do this in Internet Explorer, go to:
Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - go to VM at the bottom of the list and tick 'JIT compiler for virtual machine'

Some versions of Windows, notably XP, do not have Java installed by default. To download and automatically install the Sun Java Virtual Machine, visit the Sun Microsystems web site.

Screen size
This presentation has been designed to fit on a 17'' monitor with a Desktop Area of 1024 x 768 pixels.

To change the Display Area of your monitor:

right click on your desktop (the background of your screen, on which windows, icons and dialogues boxes appear)

choose Properties

 

 

-

click the Settings tab

 

 

-

adjust the Desktop Area to 1024 x 768 pixels

 

 

-

click 'OK', the screen will go blank briefly while it re-adjusts itself, this is normal.

   

Hardware
Currently, the presentation only functions on a PC, not an Apple Mac.
