The Replacement Chesterfield Borough Local Plan adopted in June 2006 sets out the local planning authority's detailed policies and proposals for the development and use of land within Chesterfield borough, including Staveley and Brimington, until 2016.
The plan replaces the existing plan adopted in 1996 and incorporates the changes in policies that have occurred since then.
Following two rounds of extensive public consultation and a public inquiry, a Government appointed planning inspector considered all of the objections to the plan and supported the council's key proposals in the plan. The plan is vital for the development and regeneration of Chesterfield over the next ten years and will help the town become a safer, cleaner, greener and more thriving place to live and work.
In particular, it will enable the council to continue the impressive masterplanning work done so far to tackle the large scale regeneration required in the A61 and Chatsworth Road corridors.
The plan will enable:
- Major areas of business/industrial floorspace in the A61 corridor;
- a new football stadium on the Dema Glass site;
- major shopping development in the Holywell Cross area of the town centre;
- housing and mixed use regeneration at Walton Works and Wheatbridge Mills on Chatsworth Road.
Whilst helping to create the conditions in which the community and economy can thrive, the plan continues to provide the means to protect and improve the natural and built environment of the borough.
This plan looks forward to 2016. However the social economic and environmental challenges and opportunities in the borough will not stand still. So in 2007, following the consultation on a new regional plan, work will begin on the Local Development Framework which will roll forward the council's policies further into the future. |
